This manual gives CPET teams repeatable, reviewable quality workflows. It connects readiness, calibration, quality control, reporting, data integrity, escalation, and oversight. Intended readers include laboratory and medical directors, quality managers, exercise physiologists, technologists, and others who design, perform, review, or govern CPET services. It is an operational reference; current primary sources and local policy remain controlling.
The workflow begins before testing and continues through controlled reporting. Readiness review covers referral context, source documents, staffing, role ownership, acceptance criteria, and proceed, defer, or decline decisions. Calibration chapters define sequence, stop criteria, records, handoffs, failed checks, and equipment-specific adaptation. Report standards follow data through calculations, reviewer sign-off, exceptions, release, amendment, and export.
Inside the manualEach workflow identifies required information, decision ownership, and retained evidence. A source hierarchy distinguishes primary sources, professional-society statements, organizational policy, and local job aids. The manual separates common process from equipment- or facility-specific adaptation and addresses missing, stale, inconsistent, or superseded information. Quality checks include acceptance, rejection, closure, and re-verification conditions.
Worked cases connect the standards to laboratory situations. Nine chapters cover authority, readiness, calibration, reports, quality control, interpretation and escalation, audit trails, competency and corrective action, and implementation. Cases illustrate routine and exception workflows. Appendices include a source register, reusable tools, six cases, audit and management-review resources, a glossary, and a change log.
The intended reader is a CPET service that needs to make its own requirements explicit and maintainable. Laboratory directors, medical directors, quality leads, physiologists, technologists, and operations staff can use the chapters to review responsibilities, document local adoption, and keep evidence traceable across handoffs. The tools are starting points for local approval; they do not replace the current official text of a standard, guideline, statute, regulation, manufacturer instruction, or a qualified professional's judgment.
Use the manual to review readiness, measurement, reporting, and corrective action as a connected process. Its checklists and cases are starting points for controlled local adaptation and approval. Applicable authorities, equipment instructions, medical direction, and current policy remain controlling. The implementation appendices also provide gap-assessment tools, competency review, management-review aids, quality measures, retention controls, an update calendar, and triggers for an out-of-cycle review.
