The study begins with a fresh classification of Frost's narrative poetry, distinguishing personal narratives, dramatic monologues, third-person accounts, and dramatic dialogues. It then examines the New England social world that shaped these characters - a world of anomie, isolation, and slow cultural change - before moving into close readings of the poems themselves. Originally submitted as a doctoral dissertation to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, this study has been extensively revised and expanded for a general readership.
