Chasing the Storm: Break Into Catastrophe Insurance Adjusting and Deploy for Storm-Season Pay - No Degree Required (A Field Guide) (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798188995577)

The storms keep coming. Someone has to settle the claims.

When a hurricane, hail line or wildfire hits, thousands of claims land at once and carriers scramble for licensed hands. That surge work - independent catastrophe adjusting - can pay $75,000-$150,000 in a hard deployment season, and it doesn't ask for a college degree.

It's a real moment, not hype: insured natural-catastrophe losses topped $100 billion for the sixth straight year in 2025 (Swiss Re), and roughly a quarter of claims adjusters are expected to retire by 2027. But the honest picture matters too - day-to-day desk adjusting is shrinking under automation, so this is deployment-and-surge work, feast-and-famine, not a salaried desk job.

This field guide maps the real path from a trades, construction, inspection or military background: getting your first adjuster license (and which state license travels), building the rookie resume, getting on the storm-rosters that actually deploy you, surviving your first deployment, and turning one storm season into a repeatable living.

Every figure carries its source and date. Nothing is guaranteed - storms and rosters are unpredictable. What you get is a clear-eyed route into the work most people don't even know exists.

You already read damage and talk to people under stress. Get licensed and deploy.
