She has more than 25 years of experience in teaching, supervision, administration, community relations, fiscal management, and family advocacy. She has developed innovative programs in employer-supported child care, child care consortia, family satellite care systems, school-age programs, and infant child care. Fairfax County, Virginia named Ms. Fried Child Care Professional of the Year in 1986. She was named a commissioner of the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs and has been elected to the board of ACCCI--Society of Work-Family Professionals.
