The book won the Robert Bruce Cooke Family History Book Award from the North Carolina Society of Historians in 2014. Another book by Emmons, Glen Alpine Springs Hotel: A History of Burke County's Finest Accommodation, is the story of the elegant mineral springs resort hotel built by Colonel Walton in 1878.
