Classic Learning Test (CLT) Study Guide 2027 (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9781608887798)

CLT Study Guide 2027: Complete Preparation for the Classic Learning Test is a comprehensive, independent preparation resource for high school students, homeschool families, and classical educators preparing for the Classic Learning Test administered by Classic Learning Initiatives. This 112-page guide covers all three sections of the CLT â " Verbal Reasoning, Grammar/Writing, and Quantitative Reasoning â " while providing the deep grounding in the Western intellectual tradition that sets the CLT apart from conventional standardized tests. Whether you are a classical school student already immersed in the Great Books, a homeschooler encountering these texts for the first time, or a conventional school student seeking an alternative to the SAT and ACT, this guide equips you with both the content knowledge and test-taking strategies you need to earn a competitive score. This study guide is independently published and is not affiliated with Classic Learning Initiatives.

The guide opens with a thorough introduction explaining what the CLT is, how it differs structurally and philosophically from the SAT and ACT, and why the CLT matters now â " including coverage of the ROTC mandate that has brought the test to national attention. A detailed Eight-Week Study Plan provides a structured pathway through the material: Week 1 covers Foundations of Western Thought, Week 2 addresses Faith, Reason, and the Medieval Mind, Week 3 focuses on Literature and Rhetoric, Weeks 4 through 6 deliver targeted strategy sessions for Verbal Reasoning, Grammar/Writing, and Quantitative Reasoning respectively, Week 7 features a full-length timed practice test, and Week 8 provides final review and test-day preparation. Part I: The Classical Canon You Need to Know begins with Greek Philosophy and proceeds through the primary source passages and authors most frequently represented on the CLT, including selections from Homer, Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Aquinas, Shakespeare, the Federalist Papers, and other cornerstone texts of the Western tradition. Each passage is accompanied by guided reading questions and analysis that build the close-reading skills the exam rewards.

The guide includes a complete full-length practice examination with answer explanations keyed to specific reasoning skills and content domains. A Grammar and Usage reference section covers the conventions most frequently tested, including parallel structure, subject-verb agreement, and rhetorical effectiveness questions. The Quantitative Reasoning section includes worked examples for algebra, geometry, data interpretation, and the logic problems that distinguish the CLT's math section. A curated reading list provides recommendations for deeper engagement with the classical tradition beyond test preparation, organized by period and difficulty level.

Earning a strong CLT score equips you for a satisfying and meaningful next step in your education. The CLT is now accepted by over 250 colleges and universities â " including classical Christian institutions, Catholic universities, and a growing number of secular schools â " and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Defense for ROTC scholarship eligibility. A competitive CLT score demonstrates not just academic aptitude but intellectual seriousness and engagement with the foundational ideas of Western civilization, qualities that distinguish your application in an increasingly competitive admissions landscape.
