Here's what nobody tells you when you're fresh out of school, or a few years into a job that feels more like a waiting room than a career: there is an entire world of work that most people never even know exists. Somewhere between the military and the diplomatic corps, there's a massive, ongoing effort to build and maintain U.S. government facilities overseas - embassies, consulates, support compounds - and it runs almost entirely on contractors. Cleared, capable, ordinary people who decided to go where the work was, instead of waiting for the work to come to them.
