Jim Bain was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates, in the 1969 baseball draft. Instead of going straight into professional baseball, he opted to attend college where he continued to excel at the game of baseball. Finishing college he worked his way through the Pittsburgh Pirate minor league system reaching the AAA level. Jim has been quoted saying "He just wanted to pass forward the skills he was taught by unselfish and knowledgeable coaches."
