The book proves to be a classical work in the history of modern philosophy, especially in ontological phenomenology and ontology. At the same time, Ingarden's major work provides classical argumentation in favor of realism in philosophy. It is the most eminent achievement in the history of Polish philosophy.
Roman Ingarden (1893-1970) was an outstanding Polish philosopher, student of Husserl in Gtingen, and professor at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow from 1946. Ingarden was the author of numerous works in aesthetics and theory of literature; however, his major contribution to philosophy is the ontological treatise Controversy over the Existence of the World.
