Counterintelligence (Book One): A Space Helo Tale (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798244682786)

On Station Kestrel, the enemy doesn't need guns.

It only needs your attention.

When investigators Elias Mercer and Director Bell begin seeing strange lapses in judgment-routine mistakes, sudden obedience, a creeping need to "do what feels right"-they uncover a threat so subtle it's almost elegant: a subliminal Voice, threaded through the station's own speakers, vents, and light systems. It doesn't command. It conditions. It rewards compliance with relief, turns duty into a trap, and quietly trains good people to betray themselves.

There's no firewall for a whisper.

To survive, Mercer's team abandons modern convenience and goes brutally old-school-paper messages, analog checklists, physical blindfolds, and mind-anchoring rituals built from mathematical primes. Every comfort becomes suspect. Every ritual is examined. Every predictable human pattern becomes a doorway the Voice can use.

But as the crew tightens their protocols and begins to starve the adversary of the mediums it needs-sound, light, routine-the station transforms into a battlefield of discipline versus dependency. Because the hardest part isn't sealing bulkheads or scrubbing corrupted systems.

It's resisting the temptation to surrender-one small, "reasonable" choice at a time.

COUNTERINTELLIGENCE is a claustrophobic sci-fi psychological thriller about control, contagion, and what it costs to remain yourself when reality can be rewritten through the air you breathe.
