Counterpoint: A Life in Property Management (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9781068036729)

Previously published as Managing Complexity, Delivering Clarity: A Life in Property Management.

Property management is a profession that happens largely behind the scenes. Every day, managers hold together complex projects, governance matters, resident concerns, emergency calls, financial decisions, and human expectations-often without recognition.

In Counterpoint, Anna Petroff, CPM, reflects on more than a decade in residential and commercial property management. Her path into the profession was unconventional: before high-rise operations, board meetings, and reserve-fund planning, she was a professional pianist and the owner of a music school. That earlier life shaped the discipline, patience, and composure she would later bring to managing shared communities.

Part memoir and part professional reflection, Counterpoint explores the work beneath the surface: the difficult board conversation, the carefully worded notice, the failed system, the budget under pressure, the resident who needs an answer, and the quiet decisions that prevent a problem from becoming a crisis.

For property managers, board members, residents, and anyone interested in how communities function, this is an honest account of a profession that asks for technical knowledge, judgment, resilience, and an ability to listen for the many voices in the room.
