Ray Launier completed his M.A. in Human Development from the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. His career experiences have spanned the areas of basic research on emotions and stress, many areas of applied psychology, and teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. From 1996 to 2015, he has served as Professor of Psychology at Santa Barbara City College. His interest in and approach to cultivating emotional well being reflects his growing up years on a working farm in New Hampshire, his training and experience as a weather observer in the U.S. Air Force, and the influence of many University teachers, scientists, writers and students of wisdom. We need and should have our emotions; our emotions should not have us. We culture yeast for our bread, beer and wine, bacteria to test for disease and pearls to adorn neck lines; why not culture emotional wisdom?
