Danny Dunn: Into the Volcano (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9781667665979)

When a middle-school science rivalry leads a boy to tamper with his mentor's experimental microwave projector, an accidental discovery launches an adventure far beyond anything he imagined. The device produces a seemingly indestructible force field bubble-and soon, that invention is the only thing standing between a small group of young scientists and the molten heart of an active Costa Rican volcano.

Invited to join a volcanologist's research expedition, the three friends find themselves deep inside a volcanic caldera, protected from thousand-degree lava by a bubble of projected energy running on a finite battery charge. With rising magma, blocked escape routes, and an impending eruption, they must use every ounce of scientific knowledge and raw courage they possess-or be swallowed by the mountain forever.

Packed with real volcanology, warm characters, and laugh-out- loud moments, this is a story about curiosity, responsibility, and what happens when science goes spectacularly, wonderfully wrong.
