xThe Author: Dr. Don Heinrich Tolzmann is Senior Librarian and Director of the German-American Studies Program at the University of Cincinnati. He has written or edited numerous books dealing with German-American history, literature, and culture, including The Cincinnati Germans after the Great War (Peter Lang, 1987) and In der Neuen Welt: Deutsch-Amerikanische Festschrift für die 500-Jahrfeier der Entdeckung von Amerika (Peter Lang,1992). He serves as president of the Society for German-American Studies, and on the Editorial Board of the Society's Yearbook of German-American Studies. In 1986, he received the Federal Republic of Germany's Friendship Award for contributions on behalf of German-American relations, and in 1991 the Federal Republic of Germany's Federal Service Cross.
