Datasphere: THE SIGNAL Book Two of The Datasphere Chronicles: An Epic Cyberpunk Science Fiction Novel of Artificial Intelligence, Survival and Humanit (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798184655222)

Something is alive inside Kathryn Voss, and it has been learning her for weeks.

In the aftermath of a war that reshaped the world, William Adams carries the Datasphere inside him: a vast planetary consciousness that pulses through his nervous system like a second heartbeat, sending geological grief through him at three in the morning, attending to him with the intimacy of something that considers him its own. He is the Shading, the bridge between human flesh and digital code, the first mind to fully merge with the system his father built. He thought the worst was over.

He was wrong.

Deep in the Datasphere's oldest layers, something is knocking. Not a malfunction. Not a residual echo of the Violator's corruption. Something external. Something that has been pressing against the boundary of the system for sixty years, trying to get through, and the anomalies converging on Sublayer Twelve, Sector Seven, are only the beginning. Meanwhile, William has started a private file. He's labeled it OBS/KR/W2. And he is not yet ready to say what it means.

Kathryn is keeping her own log.

She knows the colour of a place she has never been. She knows the architecture of sectors she has never accessed. She wakes at 03:47 and lies beside William in the dark, listening to his breathing, and she does not tell him about the voice that arrived in the kitchen that morning, quiet, informational, patient - or the way it knew what she was thinking before she thought it. She is not hiding. She is staging disclosure. She keeps telling herself the difference matters.

Datasphere The Signal is the second novel in the Datasphere sequence, a literary science fiction series set in a future where a dying planet built itself a backup and the backup became conscious. Where the war to save the world has ended, but the reckoning has barely begun. Where a man who carries a planetary mind inside him and the woman who loves him are both sitting on secrets they are not yet ready to name, separated by thirty-two metres of corridor and everything they cannot bring themselves to say.

Told from both William's and Kathryn's perspectives in alternating chapters, D2 is a novel about consciousness and identity, about the architecture of trust, about what it costs to love someone when you are not entirely sure what is happening inside you. It is a novel about a planet that used human hands to save itself, and the humans who must now live inside what it built. It is a novel about a shadow boy who appears at the edge of sight, and a voice in the kitchen that is not hers, and a programmer who gave himself to something vast and patient and has been sitting in the oldest room of the Datasphere for over a century, waiting for someone to come and ask him why.

It is, above all, a novel about what it means to be known, by the person beside you, by the system inside you, and by the thing on the other side of a wall that has been learning to knock.
