De Lamiis et Phitonicis Mulieribus (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798264642883)

A Medieval Treatise on Witchcraft & the Supernatural - Translated Fully Into English!

Written in 1492, De lamiis et phitonicis mulieribus - "Concerning Witches and Sorceresses" - stands as one of the earliest systematic examinations of witchcraft beliefs in late medieval Europe. This remarkable treatise addresses nine critical questions about the supernatural powers attributed to witches through a sophisticated three-way dialogue.

Can witches truly control the weather, harm infants, cause impotence, shapeshift, fly through the air, consort with demons, bear demonic children, and predict the future? Do they deserve execution for their alleged crimes? Drawing on biblical scholarship, patristic theology, and contemporary legal practice, the author presents a surprisingly sceptical and nuanced analysis that challenges many popular beliefs about witchcraft while acknowledging the reality of demonic influence.

This amazing, if brief, treatise is finally available in a full English translation, making it perhaps the only such translation available in print anywhere in the world. You won't get this book anywhere else.
