Dead Lucky: From the Files of the St. Louis Police Homicide Division (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798190224009)

What if winning the lottery was the worst thing that ever happened to you?

Eighteen months after claiming a $280 million jackpot, Robert "Bobby" Delaney lies dead inside his mansion on Lindell Boulevard. His skull has been crushed, his wall safe stands open, and the crystal lottery ball that symbolized his incredible luck has vanished.

There are no signs of forced entry.

Whoever killed Bobby was someone he trusted-or someone who knew how to enter without being noticed.

Detective Sergeant Mick Callahan and Detective Darius Coleman soon discover that Bobby's fortune has torn his family apart. His second wife expected to inherit millions. His former wife carried the wounds of a bitter divorce. His son desperately needed money to save a failing business. His daughter believed the fortune belonged to the family. And the next morning, Bobby was scheduled to sign a new estate plan that would change everything.

Nearly everyone had a motive.

Nearly everyone is lying.

As Callahan and Coleman follow a trail of altered alibis, hidden debts, missing charitable funds, secret meetings, and security records from the night of the murder, the investigation becomes a race to determine who needed Bobby dead before ten o'clock the next morning.

The deeper they dig, the clearer it becomes that the lottery did not create the Delaney family's greed, resentment, and desperation.

It merely revealed them.

Set against the mansions of St. Louis's historic Central West End and the shadowed beauty of Forest Park, Dead Lucky is a gripping murder mystery about sudden wealth, shattered loyalties, and the deadly price of believing money can solve everything.

For Robert Delaney, winning the lottery made him the luckiest man in Missouri.

It also made him a target.
