Dear Depression, Not Today: For the Black Man Who Looks Strong but Is Fighting Inside (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798196882678)

Dear Depression, Not Today is a powerful and compassionate book for the Black man who looks strong on the outside but is silently fighting battles no one can see.

Too many Black men have been taught to carry pain without complaint, hide exhaustion behind silence, and turn hurt into anger because vulnerability was never made to feel safe. They are expected to provide, protect, lead, endure, and keep moving - even when their mind, body, and spirit are asking for help.

Written by Alina Smith, PMHNP-C, this book speaks directly to the Black man who may be battling depression, intrusive thoughts, grief, trauma, burnout, loneliness, shame, or emotional heaviness while still showing up for everybody else.

This is not a book that tells men to "man up."

It is a book that reminds them they are human.

With honesty, encouragement, and mental health insight, Dear Depression, Not Today explores the quiet ways depression can show up in Black men - through anger, isolation, numbness, irritability, overworking, withdrawal, and silence. It also speaks to the power of therapy, support, brotherhood, faith, emotional honesty, rest, and choosing life even when the weight feels heavy.

This book is for the man who has carried too much for too long.

It is for the man who needs to know his pain matters.

It is for the man who needs permission to stop suffering in silence.

Depression may speak loudly, but it does not get the final word.

Not today.
