She has been a judge for many contests including original paperback and short story contests for the Private Eye Writers of America's Shamus Awards and also judged the category of short story for the Short Mystery Fiction Society's Derringer Awards. She has also judged several Romance Writers of America contests. kinman is a frequent moderator and panelist for Left Coast Crime, Bouchercon, Malice Domestic, Epicon, Mayhem in the Midlands, and other writers' conferences.
