CONSTANTINE MICHALOPOULOS, for many years a senior official of the World Bank, has worked on operations and research of trade policies of developing countries and economies in transition. In 1997-99 he was Special Economic Advisor at the WTO where he developed materials for this book as well as a better appreciation of the challenges faced by developing countries in the world trading system.
