I chose to study discipleship for my doctoral studies due to my experience in the church, along with hearing and reading so often that the church needs to return to the church of the New Testament. The COVID pandemic began just as I was due to begin my research project, forcing me to change my approach. I was approved to do a historical study of discipleship throughout the history of the church. As I began my research, I noticed there were significant events in history that altered the views and focus of the church leaders on discipleship. This book centers around those events, how they affected the church, and what can be done now to bring Jesus's model of discipleship back to the local church.
