Domestic Manners of the Americans (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9781161428797)

""Domestic Manners Of The Americans"" is a book written by Fanny Trollope, an English writer who visited the United States in the 19th century. The book is a satirical and critical account of American society and culture as observed by Trollope during her travels. Trollope provides a detailed description of the customs, habits, and manners of the Americans, including their dress, food, religion, politics, and social interactions. She also comments on the differences between American and European society, highlighting the lack of refinement and sophistication in American culture. The book caused controversy upon its publication in 1832, with many Americans feeling insulted by Trollope's criticisms. However, it remains an important historical document for its insights into early American society and the perceptions of Europeans towards it.We were by no means the only sufferers by the accident; frogs, lizards, locusts, katiedids, beetles, and hornets, had the whole of their various tenements disturbed, and testified their displeasure very naturally by annoying us as much as possible in return; we were bit, we were stung, we were scratched; and when, at last, we succeeded in raising ourselves from the venerable ruin, we presented as woeful a spectacle as can well be imagined. We shook our (not ambrosial) garments, and panting with heat, stings, and vexation, moved a few paces from the scene of our misfortune, and again sat down; but this time it was upon the solid earth. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
