Ryan Homanics was born on September 5th, 1989 in Raleigh, North Carolina to parents Gregg and Valerie. He grew up in Belle Vernon, PA. He played ice hockey as a goalie at a competitive level until college when he was forced to take a medical leave from school due to an ongoing battle with drug addiction. For the next 5 years his war with drugs escalated to devastating levels. Finally, after 4 felony charges, 7 trips to inpatient rehab, and numerous tragedies in between Ryan celebrated 3 years off heroin on October 18th, 2017. He now seeks to take what he has learned through personal experience and education to dissect the core of the heroin epidemic in his first ever book.
