Doublin': A novel of contemporary speculative fiction (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798335418690)

Sophie and Gus meet at a writer's conference and immediately bond with sarcasm and a desire to expand their careers. Uncovering a scheme that leverages AI-writing and the unwitting publishing industry for illicit purposes, they become entangled with one another and equally over their heads. Readers will enjoy following Sophie and Gus's half-truths becoming increasingly unsustainable. When their undertaking comes too close to the source of their research, one of them is placed in grave danger and everything they are doing must be exposed for better or for worse.

In December 2021, China declared "The future of the world should rest in the hands of all peoples of the world. ...and the fruits of development should be shared by all." As a strategic futurist and author, Owens visualizes a plausible scenario explaining how BRICS nations might turn ambitions into actions. The protagonists slowly realize the novel approach for global development comes from a yet-to-be realized use of AI writing where the publishing industry becomes an unwitting vehicle to distribute information.

Doublin' is an entertaining page-turner that uses the witty dialogue of the characters to follow their endeavors across Europe. Painstakingly researched, the book follows real-world technological developments and international relations, while making a compelling commentary on the growing complexity of Artificial Intelligence, lack of regulations, and fundamental understanding of potential applications within the publishing industry. Finding the obscure breadcrumbs in the text, by the book's end the most observant readers appropriately wonder 'Did this just happen?'
