Upon returning home from a friend's funeral, high school teacher Mike Wells finds himself implicated in the death of the supervisor who recently suspended him. Knowing he didn't kill his boss, Mike sets out to find out who did. He is assisted by his best friend and former tank crewmember, Tommy, in looking into who was actually behind this murder. While suspended, Mike discovers his sister has been on the receiving end of an abusive marriage for the past twenty years. This doesn't sit well with him and he feels the need to fulfill his role as big brother in this matter. While assisting a local private investigator, Mike also gets involved in the search for several missing teenage girls. With the clock racing to find these girls, Mike must also remain ahead of the police's investigations of him.

Jack G. Young spent four years in the US Army as a crewmember of an M1A1 Abrams tank. It was during those years he forged a bond with many other soldiers in which he is still in contact with today.
