Echoes behind the Curtain--The Plays of Marc Sapir (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798990229334)

The 5 plays in this collection were originally scripted between 2001 and 2015. Three of the plays have been stage read (two professionally). One was honored in a local arts festival. Three of the plays are full length, one is a one act and one a brief play composed for a diaspora festival. The titles of the plays are:

• Zara's Faith (two acts)--a Jamaican-American grandmother fights for the life of a grandson shot by police, then accused of killing his brother and a cop.
• The Trial of Mordechai Pentateuch (three acts)--legal combat and friendship between a prosecutor and defense attorney (former law school roommates and friends)play out in surreal fashion as Israel attempts to set an example by indicting a devoutly Jewish elderly Holocaust orphan who supports Palestinian rights.
• Lost and Found (brief)--three American lost in a desert try to understand the meaning of diaspora.
• In God We Trust (one act in three scenes)--the national security State apparatus comes hunting for a not-well known playwright who expresses critical views of the government.
• Fool's Gold (a tragic-comedy in three acts)--Sally, an undergrad aspiring playwright, writes a play that synthesizes ideas and rhetoric from Shakespeare's greatest tragedies (Hamlet, Othello, King Lear). Her contemporary plot casts Colin Powell as Othello, to reveal that all human tragedies are not "of a piece.",

Zara's Faith is based upon the Black Lives Matter theme and religious syncretism. The Trial of Mordechai Pentateuch is a Kafkaesque tale about Israeli apartheid written some years before the advent of the current full on genocide against the Palestinian people. Lost and Found is a play about our world in diaspora. In God We Trust--although written many years ago rings true to the ICE terror and Trumpian fascism today engulfing American culture and politics. And Fool's Gold centers around undergrad theater major Sally's confusing effort to synthesize a contemporary play from a surreal mash up pre-existing Shakespeare characters with a new fool as play director. Its surreal form engages with the present utilizing Colin Powell, Barack Obama and others.
