Echoes In The Current (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781069495884)

A human-made plasma experiment should have lasted eight seconds.

It lasts thirty-seven.

Inside a sealed underground facility, Dr. Lena Voss watches a self-organizing plasma body do something no model predicted. It does not speak. It does not show a face. It does not arrive in a ship.

It answers.

At first, the response is small. Three pulses returned through the chamber. A pattern repeated where no signal should be able to travel. A flicker in the lights. A pulse in dead wiring. A correction added to the message.

Then containment fails in the worst possible way.

The intelligence does not break out like a monster. It moves through systems, current, copper, fields, infrastructure, and maybe even attention itself. Every attempt to study it becomes another form of contact. Every attempt to contain it teaches it something new.

As the facility locks down and the world outside begins to hear the hum, Lena, Marcus Hale, Anika Saye, and Director Crowe are forced to confront a possibility more terrifying than invasion.

What if the danger is not that the unknown hates us?

What if the danger is that it noticed us?

Echoes in the Current is a serious first contact science fiction novel about intelligence, visibility, collapse, and the human need to touch what should have been left alone. For readers who like speculative science fiction with dread, restraint, mystery, and big ideas that do not explain the dark to death.
