Economic Causes of the Reformation in England (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781025622002)

"Economic Causes of the Reformation in England" provides a comprehensive investigation into the financial and material circumstances that fueled the English Reformation. Oscar Albert Marti examines the complex interplay between church and state, focusing on how economic grievances, clerical taxation, and the vast wealth of religious institutions precipitated a break from the Roman Catholic Church.

The work explores the fiscal motivations of the Tudor monarchy and the socio-economic pressures felt by the English laity. By analyzing the dissolution of the monasteries and the subsequent redistribution of land and assets, Marti illustrates how economic shifts were inextricably linked to religious change. This study highlights the role of the Church as a major landholder and the tensions arising from its financial demands on the populace. "Economic Causes of the Reformation in England" is an essential read for those interested in the historical intersection of religion, politics, and economics during the sixteenth century, offering a scholarly perspective on the material forces that reshaped the nation.
