Edible Cacti: Pitaya, Nopales, and Cactus Pears (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798182290838)

Even though we are well aware of the multiple ornamental-uses of various cacti plants, we seldom know that there are certain cacti species that can be used for food uses as well. Two most popular cacti species from genus Cactaceae that are used for food purposes are, Selenicereus spp. (previously known as Hylocereus spp.) and Opuntia spp. (prickly pear cacti). The famous and popular dragon fruits belong to the Selenicereus genus of Cactaceae family. When it comes to Opuntia genus, it has three species of plants that produce edible plant parts. These species are Opuntia ficus-indica, Opuntia amyclaea, and Opuntia inermis. This small book is about popular edible cacti like nopales, cactus pears, and dragon fruits.
