Education Through Experience: A Four Year Experiment In The Ethical Culture (1921) (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781104051204)

Education Through Experience: A Four Year Experiment In The Ethical Culture (1921) is a book written by Mabel Ray Goodlander that explores the concept of experiential learning in the context of ethical culture. The book is based on a four-year experiment conducted at the Ethical Culture School in New York City, where Goodlander was a teacher. The experiment aimed to provide students with a more meaningful education by emphasizing the importance of practical experiences and hands-on learning. The book is divided into several chapters, each of which explores a different aspect of the experiment. The first chapter provides an overview of the Ethical Culture School and the philosophy behind the experiment. The subsequent chapters delve into specific aspects of the experiment, such as the use of field trips, community service projects, and student-led activities to enhance learning.Throughout the book, Goodlander emphasizes the importance of experiential learning in developing ethical and moral values in students. She argues that traditional classroom-based education is often too abstract and disconnected from real-world experiences, and that students need to be actively engaged in their own learning in order to fully understand and internalize ethical principles.Overall, Education Through Experience: A Four Year Experiment In The Ethical Culture (1921) is a thought-provoking and insightful book that offers a unique perspective on the role of experiential learning in ethical education. It is a valuable resource for educators, parents, and anyone interested in the intersection of education and ethics. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
