EEOC Secrets: What Every Employee Should Know Before Filing a Workplace Discrimination Charge (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798190468571)

You're tired.

Tired of being treated differently. Tired of replaying every meeting, email, and "casual" comment in your head. Tired of wondering whether what happened was actually illegal-or whether anyone will believe you if you speak up.

Now you're thinking about filing with the EEOC.

You are not alone. In fiscal year 2025, nearly 270,000 people contacted the EEOC with workplace concerns, and 88,201 formal charges of discrimination were filed. Yet few employees truly understand the process-or know what to expect once they click "Submit."

EEOC Secrets gives you something most guides cannot: a friend on the inside who has been on both sides of the investigation.

Jana Lomax, J.D., is a civil rights lawyer, former FEPA investigator trained by the EEOC, as well as a former charging party who successfully navigated her own workplace discrimination case. She knows how overwhelming the process feels-and how a charge looks from the investigator's side of the desk.

With plain-English explanations, candid advice, relatable scenarios, practical tools, and a healthy dose of jaded millennial humor, this book will help you:

- Determine whether your workplace treatment may be legally actionable-or merely awful, which is unfortunately not always the same thing
- Protect critical filing deadlines before the calendar quietly destroys your case
- Document discrimination without accidentally creating new problems
- Identify comparators, contradictions, and pretext-even when your employer develops a sudden case of corporate amnesia
- Write a focused, persuasive charge
- Navigate mediation and the investigation without losing the plot-or your patience
- Respond effectively to your employer's position statement
- Evaluate settlement offers and right-to-sue notices
- Avoid the mistakes that quietly weaken otherwise valid claims

This is not a promise that the EEOC will rescue you. It is an honest, strategic guide to helping you enter the process informed, organized, and prepared.

You may be exhausted. You may be angry. You may still be asking yourself whether it was really that bad.

But you do not have to figure out what comes next alone.
