Eknath: A Translation From the Bhaktalilamrita (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781025627540)

"Eknath: A Translation From the Bhaktalilamrita" provides an illuminating glimpse into the life and spiritual devotion of one of Maharashtra's most revered figures. This work is a detailed hagiographical account of the 16th-century saint-poet Eknath, translated from the influential writings of Mah?pati. Eknath was a transformative figure in the Varkari tradition, known for his profound compassion, social reform, and his role in bridging the gap between scholarly Sanskrit and the vernacular Marathi language.

The narrative details the various episodes and miracles associated with Eknath's life, illustrating his deep commitment to the Bhakti movement and his philosophical teachings on the nature of devotion and equality. By chronicling the trials and triumphs of this great saint, the work serves as a vital record of medieval Indian spirituality. It offers readers an understanding of the cultural and religious fabric of the time, emphasizing the saint's contributions to the Bhagavata Purana tradition and his enduring influence on Indian devotional literature. This translation remains a significant resource for scholars and practitioners interested in the history of Hinduism, biography, and the rich hagiographical traditions of India.
