El Filibusterismo (1891) by José Rizal is the sequel to Noli Me Tangere and continues the story of the Philippines under Spanish colonial rule. The novel follows the return of Crisostomo Ibarra, now disguised as the wealthy and mysterious Simoun, who seeks revenge against the corrupt government and church officials who ruined his life. Unlike his idealistic past, Simoun now believes that only revolution and violence can bring about change. He tries to incite an uprising, but his plans ultimately fail, and he dies without achieving his goal. The novel is a powerful critique of colonial oppression, social injustice, and the moral struggles of a society on the brink of rebellion.
