The Author: Paula Hanssen began researching Elisabeth Hauptmann in Brecht's works as a graduate student finishing her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois/Urbana. She received a Dissertation Research Grant from the University of Illinois for her research in Berlin in 1989-1990. Paula Hanssen lives with her husband and daughter in St. Louis and teaches at St. Louis University and Webster University. She has published: ｫElisabeth Hauptmann: Schriftstellerin, Dramaturgin, Museｻ in the anthology Was f? eine Frau! Portraits aus Ostwestfalen/Lippe 1992.
