Embers in the Sea is a collection of poetry written throughout a journey of healing. Ranging from gruesome to serene, each poem serves either to release ghosts of my past, or to tell stories as I connect with the present (sometimes beyond what can be seen). Born and raised in Seattle, WA, I experienced a childhood filled with love and adventure but not without losses. Throughout my twenties, I found myself so deeply depressed that I just wanted to go away...At a young age, I professed that "my soul was tired". I wished to swim out to sea with the whales and never return. Plagued by addiction and self hatred with no pinpointable source, I spiraled for years through a darkness that was all-consuming. With no sense of purpose and complete disconnection from the beauty in this world, I dragged my feet through reliance on unhealthy coping mechanisms...anything to chase my past and remove myself from reality. With IFS therapy, reconnection with Nature, and environmental purpose found through reentry into education, I suspect the divinity of the universe has pulled me out of the void, and I've been offered an opportunity to examine my past, my present, and to embrace the thread I'm meant to weave into the fabric of the beautiful Earth we call home. These poems convey both the turmoil and the inexplicable beauty I've discovered throughout this lifetime...If just one person finds themselves in one of my poems, my sharing them will have been worth it...I feel my experiences and lessons would be wasted if I chose not to share them with others...Everyone experiences sadness, love, ugliness, and beauty, and we are able to connect by sharing these things...It's not only human- it's life.
