Engineering Edge: Building Prop-Firm-Grade Expert Advisors in MQL5 (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798190377590)

Stop hoping your trading bot survives. Engineer one that does.

Most Expert Advisors fail. Not because their creators can't code, and not because the markets are unbeatable - but because the EA was built as a single clever idea instead of an engineered system. It has an entry signal and little else: no disciplined risk layer, no defense against its own worst day, no awareness of the prop-firm rules it has to survive under. It dazzles in a backtest, looks good for a week on demo, then quietly destroys a funded account the first time conditions turn.

Engineering Edge is the antidote.

This is a complete, ground-up engineering guide to building an Expert Advisor robust enough to earn - and keep - a prop-firm funded account. Across 26 chapters and 3 appendices, you'll construct a professional-grade trading machine piece by piece, with full, explained, reusable MQL5 code at every step.

Inside, you will build:

• A modular, production-ready EA architecture that scales from one symbol to a dozen
• A confluence filter stack - trend, momentum, session, and news - combined into a single, auditable entry decision
• A volatility-relative risk engine with dynamic position sizing and structure-aware stops
• Prop-firm survival systems: daily drawdown halts, a maximum-drawdown kill switch, drop tiers, correlation caps, and payout-aware equity watermarking
• A scalable multi-symbol core with a clean per-symbol state model
• An on-chart dashboard, multi-account portfolio design, and a disciplined backtest → forward-test → go-live process

What makes this book different:

It isn't about a magic indicator - because there isn't one. The trading signal is deliberately left as a pluggable module so you can drop in your own. What surrounds that signal - the architecture, the risk engineering, the guardrails, the testing - is the real edge, and it's exactly what separates the rare funded, profitable trader from the 95% who don't make it.

Every chapter ends with two features you'll come to rely on: "What Breaks Without This," showing the concrete failure each system prevents, and "Build It," a hands-on exercise - so that by the final page you haven't just read about Expert Advisors, you've engineered one.

Three appendices give you references you'll return to for years: a catalog of common MQL5 mistakes and their fixes, ready-made prop-firm configuration templates, and an instrument reference sheet covering spreads, volatility, sessions, and stop multipliers across forex, metals, and indices.

This book is for you if you:

• Write (or want to write) Expert Advisors in MQL5
• Are chasing - or protecting - a prop-firm funded account
• Are tired of strategies that work in backtests and fail with real money
• Want the engineering discipline that turns a trading idea into a durable system

Stop hoping. Start engineering.
