Ethics in Engineering Consultancy - Balancing sustainability, safety, and client demands (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798272756442)

The role of the engineering consultant has never been more complex. Today, we stand at the critical intersection of three powerful and often conflicting forces: the imperative for public safety, the demand for global sustainability, and the realities of client budgets and timelines.

Historically, engineering ethics focused primarily on competence and avoiding catastrophic failure. While these remain the bedrock of our profession, the 21st-century consultant must now navigate a new moral landscape where environmental impact, social equity, and long-term resilience are just as critical as the project's bottom line.

This book, Ethics in Engineering Consultancy: Balancing Sustainability, Safety, and Client Demands, is a guide for navigating this three-way tug-of-war. It is an exploration of the ethical frameworks and practical strategies required to integrate these competing priorities without compromising professional integrity. We move beyond abstract theory to address the tangible, day-to-day dilemmas-from deciding on the ethical limits of value engineering to managing the risks of emerging technologies like AI. Our goal is to equip you with the judgment, courage, and documentation practices necessary to be a faithful agent to your client while remaining an unwavering steward of the public welfare and the planet's future.
