Ethics Starts With You (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9781326776145)

Fear, hatred and suspicion have been in the ascendant worldwide in recent times, so what should we do to try to reverse this trend? Ethics, at its simplest, is a system of principles that affects how people make decisions and lead their lives. InEthics Starts with You, Dr Jim Walsh explores how we can use such ethical principles to become better human beings. Each chapter presents a clear, jargon-free overview of a specific idea, primarily from the works of the major twentieth-century continental moral philosophers Hans-Georg Gadamer, Emmanuel Levinas and Jean-Paul Sartre. Each of these ideas is illustrated with an example from culture - a film, a work of literature, apiece of music or art - the aim being to encourage a more personal ethical perspective than might be found in traditional moral theories when thinking about our relationships and impact upon one another. This groundbreaking book addresses what is it to be human and aims to help to bring out the best in all of us.
