Evolutionary Geology and the New Catastrophism (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781025650210)

"Evolutionary Geology and the New Catastrophism" is a seminal work in the history of creationist thought, offering a rigorous critique of the geological theories that gained prominence in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Written by George McCready Price, a central figure in the development of modern flood geology, this book challenges the prevailing principle of uniformitarianism-the belief that the Earth's features were formed by slow, gradual processes over millions of years. Instead, Price advocates for a "new catastrophism," arguing that the geological record can be more accurately explained by sudden, large-scale events, most notably the Biblical Deluge.

The work examines the fossil record and the arrangement of geological strata, questioning the validity of the evolutionary timeline and the methods used to date terrestrial layers. By providing an alternative interpretation of the Earth's physical history, Price seeks to harmonize scientific observation with religious doctrine. This volume is an essential primary source for understanding the historical development of the creation-evolution controversy and continues to be of interest to scholars of theology, the history of science, and the intersections of faith and natural philosophy.
