Exercise & Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS): : Likely The Only Health Miracle Out There (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781508928331)

Exercise is a well known means to lower the risk of many common diseases, including cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes and arthritis. There is a considerable scientific data to support this view. It appears that prolonged sitting is now considered to have the damaging equivalence of smoking. The hallmark of exercise is a 10-20% increase in oxygen consumption, which is rapidly metabolically converted to electronically modified oxygen derivatives, EMODs (EMODs, formerly called reactive oxygen species, ROS). Exercise deficiency disease is equivalent to an EMOD insufficiency disease. EMOD insufficiency "allows" diseases to manifest themselves such as cancer, heart disease, strokes and arthritis. Exercise is well known to have many beneficial health effects but scientists are at loss to explain the mechanism whereby exercise can lower disease risks and have a curative impact on already established diseases. So, what is the explanation for the benefits of exercise? According to the free radical theory, exercise should have a detrimental effect on overall health, due to the associated increased oxygen uptake and its subsequent conversion to "free radicals." Dr. Howes will answer your questions in his new, interesting and insightful book.
