Falmouth for Orders: Story of Sailing Race Around Cape Horn (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781025650708)

"Falmouth for Orders" is a gripping first-hand account of the legendary 1928 race between two of the last great clipper ships, the "Herzogin Cecilie" and the "Beatrice". Written by acclaimed maritime author A.J. Villiers, who served as a crew member during the voyage, this work captures the raw power and perilous beauty of life aboard a four-masted barque. The narrative follows the grueling journey from Australia to England, charting a course through the treacherous waters of Cape Horn in a high-stakes competition to deliver a cargo of grain.

This classic of nautical literature provides an authentic glimpse into the twilight of the age of sail. Villiers masterfully documents the physical challenges, the camaraderie of the crew, and the technical skill required to navigate these massive vessels across the world's most unforgiving oceans. For readers interested in maritime history, sailing, and true adventure, "Falmouth for Orders" stands as a definitive record of a bygone era of seafaring excellence and the enduring spirit of the windjammer.
