Art has always been a passion of mine. In school I enrolled in every art class. After graduation, my focus switched to work and I became a work-a-holic. I ignored art for seven years! We found out we were pregnant with our daughter Lola, and I immediately envisioned a hand painted forest nursery. That project re-ignited my passion for creating. Soon after, we found out there were complications with the pregnancy and the doctor ordered bedrest. I suddenly wasn't allowed to work. With little spending money, I started making things for her. Lola had health issues from the start and those kept us going from doctors, to specialists, to Riley's Children's Hospital. Money was tight with all the trips to Riley's. I was caring for Lola during the day and waitressing at night. My husband was working two jobs. The health issues also left very little time for sleep, for us and for her. I started buying craft supplies little bits at a time. I made Lola ton of creatures and crafty items. I had never sewn in my life! I've always thought outside the box and ideas didn't stop. Friends saw the creatures and started requesting them. After trying local craft shows, a vendor rep for a brand of zombie conventions found me and asked me to set up a booth with them. We decided to try it, and I almost sold out! Since then we have been all over. I started to gain a following and have met actors that I watch on screen. Many have gotten things for their children. I have built relationships with several of them that know Lola by name. The highlight was when I was able to meet my all time favorite person, Steven Tyler, and give him a custom doll! Lola has overcome many of the obstacles thrown her way. We still go to Riley's a couple times a year and take handmade items to show our appreciation for all they have done for us. They saved her life and we are forever grateful for them. In the last 10 months we have donated 100 copies of my other book "Lola and the Munchie Monsters." Copies of this book will also be donated. What started out as a way to help pay the bills in a very difficult time, has turned into something I could never have imagined! Fidget and the Bully Bots is based on some true events of my childhood. This has been a very emotional story to write. My hope is that children reading this will know that it's alright to be different and to go down their own path! If I listened to everyone that said I was crazy, I would have quit a long time ago!!
