Finding Solid Ground: When You Realize It's Not Part of the Job (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798247630876)

Finding Solid Ground: When You Realize It's Not Part of the Job is a deeply honest memoir about trauma, loss, and the quiet courage it takes to choose safety in systems that demand endurance at any cost.
Written by a nurse who spent years caring for others while silencing her own body's warnings, this book traces the moment when "part of the job" stopped making sense - and the long, nonlinear journey toward healing that followed. Through lived experience inside psychiatric and correctional health settings, personal loss, institutional betrayal, and recovery from PTSD, Candace Terry reveals how trauma is normalized in caregiving professions - and what it takes to reclaim solid ground.
This is not a story of failure.
It is a story of listening.
Of learning to trust the body.
Of choosing care that does not require self-erasure.
Finding Solid Ground is for nurses, first responders, caregivers, and helpers who have been told to push through - and for anyone who has felt the cost of staying silent for too long.
Trauma was never part of the job.
And safety is not something we should have to earn.
