Yelsy Ferreras came to the United States in 1995 from the Dominican Republic. Not only did she have to learn another language but she also had to adjust to a different culture. Throughout her struggles her hardships, Yelsy realized that she already possessed what she needed to be successful; it just needed to be uncovered. In 2013, Yelsy graduated with a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. Yelsy understands life and career challenges and in her effort to fulfill her dreams and utilize what she learned to help others, Yelsy worked for different counseling agencies. Throughout this time, she concluded that although she will always be a counselor at heart, she was more of a coach, a motivator and enjoyed guiding people and helping them use the skills that they already have. For this reason, she founded GEMS Empowering a service created to serve those who are looking to receive help in a non-traditional setting.
