Finno-Ugric, Siberian Mythology (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9781025657349)

"Finno-Ugric, Siberian [Mythology]" provides an exhaustive and scholarly exploration into the spiritual landscapes and cosmological beliefs of the diverse peoples inhabiting Northern Europe and Northern Asia. Written by the distinguished ethnographer Uno Holmberg, this work serves as a foundational text for understanding the intricate folklore and religious practices of Finno-Ugric and Siberian tribes.

The work delves into the rich oral traditions of groups such as the Finns, Estonians, Samoyeds, and various Siberian indigenous communities. Holmberg meticulously documents their unique perspectives on the creation of the world, the nature of the soul, and the hierarchy of celestial and terrestrial deities. Central to the narrative is an in-depth look at shamanism-the mediator between the human and spirit realms-and the ritualistic significance of animals, nature spirits, and ancestral worship.

Lavishly detailed and deeply researched, this volume remains a vital resource for students of comparative religion, anthropology, and folklore. It captures the myths of the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions, preserving the profound cultural heritage and symbolic language of the North for a global audience. Readers will find a compelling account of how these cultures navigated the mysteries of existence through a complex web of myth and ritual.
