Author Faris O'Neill A Passion for Romance At 35 years young, Faris has lived an adventurous life. It made sense that growing up a tomboy on a ranch in Colorado would lead to bigger and bolder things. Faris excelled in horseback riding, rodeo, dancing, martial arts, dogs and boys. Part of a close-knit, fun-loving family that included four other siblings, three boys and one girl, she was encouraged to write and explore her passions by her mother, who is herself an award-winning author. Faris would eventually go on to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder, where her favorite activities were raising hell and telling tall tales. Faris loves writing about all aspects of human relationships and in all the various combinations. She considers her years supporting herself as an exotic dancer to be just as instrumental to her writing as the MFA she received. "Good writing comes from experience," says Faris, "and that gave me a lot of experience with people." Immediately after graduation, she took off a year to trek the Andean Altiplano in Peru, with her boyfriend and a donkey named Noelle, learning Quechua, the indigenous language of the Incan Empire, and collecting folk stories. Her love of travel has taken her to far flung destinations, including two years spent studying Vovinam in Vietnam, a martial arts practice training both the body and the mind in spiritual pursuits. Her husband calls her "the most fearless person I know." She now lives on a small ranch close to her sprawling clan near Ft. Collins, CO, with her husband, 2 sons, and an ever-changing menagerie of dogs, birds, cats, goats, hamsters and assorted other small beasts.
