M.E. Gonzalez was born to an Irish mother and Russian-American father in Brooklyn, New York. A studious, extremely shy child, she was fascinated by the written word early on. Despite her early academic achievement, she decided to hold off going to college. At the age of 23, she took a job at Butler Library at Columbia University with the aspiration of working her way toward a B.A., and ultimately graduated cum laude from Columbia University in 1995 with a degree in Literature and Creative Writing. She has two beautiful children.
