From Inside the Cocoon: A Book of Poems and Short Stories (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781542639156)

D. B. Zimmerman starts his new book, From Inside the Cocoon, with the poem "The light." In stark words, he confronts the intense brightness that blinds him. In the world, he writes, "We live in the dark." Zimmerman explores this darkness-and a multitude of other topics-in this poignant collection of poems and short stories.

Most pieces were inspired by his own personal journey, which he sees as a metamorphosis. His work includes childhood memories and young heartbreaks as it gradually shows his evolution. Zimmerman's poems were written in the darker moments of his life, "from inside the cocoon." Now, he looks back on his defining experiences and arranges them to provide a compelling narrative thread that runs through the collection.

In addition to his evocative poems, Zimmerman includes several short stories, each one capturing a moment from his life. In one, he describes a childhood jaunt to a pool hall. In another, he recalls the largest man he ever knew and his tragic end.

Zimmerman's collection displays a wide variety of themes and moods. From introspective to humorous, his work evolves before your eyes. The motion and fluidity of his style creates its own metamorphosis!
