Native Texas Thomas Chilton "Chili" Stoner III grew up listening to ole' timers around the campfire, helping his grandfather take the cows out in the morning and bring them back at night - along the Guadalupe, rounding up Longhorns in the brush country to the south, helping his father cut cedar, doctor wormies and fix water gaps when it rained on the Nueces River hill ranch. After serving in the South Pacific. he returned home where he received his master's degree at Sul Ross State University at Alpine, Texas. For more than three decades he taught others about agriculture at Southwest Texas Junior College at Uvalde. A quarter horse breeder for over 50-years, now at age 91, others now open the gates while he goes out in his Kawasaki Mule to check on the mares and his hog traps.
