Brien Dolan was born in Toronto, Canada, the youngest of six children. His father died when Brien was four years old and consequently his childhood was supportive but somewhat stressful. His interest in helping others began to blossom when he became a lifeguard and swimming instructor and examiner during the summers of his high school and university years. After achieving a B.A. (psychology) and a B.Ed., (St. Mary's University) he began his teaching career in a small high school on the Alaska Highway. An M.A. (Dalhousie University, psychology) lead to the opportunity to start an alternate school on Vancouver Island followed by experiences as a high school counselor, a School Psychologist and lastly as a registered Clinical Counselor in private practice
